It was a chance meeting when we walked into the Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts and asked a member of Scottsdale Fire Department if she needed help measuring the space. Those few moments led to incredible opportunity. The design for Scottsdale’s 9/11 Remembrance memorial is centered on 2,996 individual cards, representing each of the victims. Created in 2010, our idea was to visually open-up the exhibit with a level of transparency that conveyed the number of people affected by this tragedy. We wanted the viewer to see all of the cards at once so that they could understand the overwhelming loss experienced on that day. Together with the Scottsdale Fire Department, we developed, built and tested the exhibit in just two weeks. We are grateful to have had this opportunity, which brought new people together for a worthy cause.
